GSLDS Leadership
Board of Directors
What does the Board of Directors do?
The Board of Directors develops policy and sets the Society’s course through strategic and long-range planning.
Who is on the Board?
The Board is comprised of five officers (President, President-Elect, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer), the Past President, the Parliamentarian, the MDA Trustee, and representatives from each of the 5 districts who serve three-year staggered terms.
When and where does the Board meet?
The Board meets eight times a year on the second Tuesday of the month, with an occasional special meeting as needed to address pressing issues.
- "As a new dentist, being involved with organized dentistry has been an important part of developing my career. My involvement has brought so many opportunities and connected me to a network of amazing dentists and specialists throughout St. Louis. One opportunity that I am especially thankful for is my leadership position on the Board of Directors for the Greater St. Louis Dental Society. Serving on The Board of Directors allows me to learn about important topics going on in dentistry from a local, state, and national standpoint and bring this information to my colleagues. I appreciate this experience and being trusted to help make decisions on behalf of our profession!" - Dr. Angelyn Rosenberger, 2022 Board of Directors
Officers
The Society’s elected officers are the President, President-Elect, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer. They are nominated by the Leadership Development Committee and elected by the membership at the Society’s Annual Business Meeting, which is usually held on the first morning of the Mid-Continent Dental Congress in October. With the exception of the Secretary/Treasurer which is a four-year term, the terms are for one year.
- "Being involved at the local level of our dental society has given me more insight into what goes on within our dental community. Before being on the board, I took a lot of the benefits of membership for granted because I didn't fully understand the 'behind the scenes' work that goes on- not only to advocate for our members on the political spectrum but even socially. Everything from leadership roles to membership perks (CE courses, Mid-Continent Dental Congress, Shred-a-Thon, district dinners, membership appreciation events) is planned by a team of vested individuals, many of whom volunteer their time to make our Society so great. Being involved helps me get the most out of my membership, as well as allows me to be an advocate for our profession." - Dr. Jennifer Wheeler, 2nd Vice President
Districts
Participating in your District Series gives you the opportunity to meet, network and build relationships with fellow professionals who share your interests and challenges. It is also your gateway to getting more involved, whether it’s serving at the District level or representing your District on the Board or a Council/Committee.
The Society is composed of five District Divisions: North, Central, West, South and Southwest. You are automatically a member of the district division you practice in. Each District has officers and all meet several times a year, providing dinner and CE.
- "The camaraderie in our profession, and particularly in our Society, is amazing and I think it stems from meetings like these. I was nominated by my District to serve on the board during a meeting later that year and it was my stepping stone to get more involved with the Society. I now look forward to our Tuesday dinner meetings to catch up with old friends, make new ones, and learn valuable information about my profession at the same time." - Dr. Danielle Riordan, 2021 President
